Kilometre of Sculpture satellite program kmX

Kilometre of Sculpture 2016 is accompanied by the satellite program kmX, which consists of different exhibitions and events. The aim of kmX is to give new life to the buildings that are unused in Rakvere and to offer artists the opportunity to exhibit art in a different environment compared to the traditional gallery space.

Various institutional partners from across Europe and Scandinavia, and artists and artist duos contribute to this year’s program with their distinct approaches. Photography, video, installations, site-specific sculptural objects as well as murals in semi-public spaces and performances are all represented.

The satellite program’s main concept was to keep the initial starting point as open as possible to enable the artists to focus on subject matters and practices they themselves find most intriguing, whether it be Soviet architecture and politically charged places of memory, balance between the natural and artificial, or human perceptions of space and different ways to manipulate this.
