Remembrance of Things Past, and Future Promises

Kilometer Sculpture is pleased to announce its open call to invite applications for the next kmS international exhibition. In 2018, kmS will be located in three cities – Rakvere, Narva and Tartu.

The forthcoming kmS exhibition is titled Remembrance of Things Past, and Future Promises. The exhibition plans to examine memory and time more closely, and how the latter can affect, remove and restore memories. In many small communities it seems time has its own rhythm, the pace of which has developed in accordance with the details and habits of the place.

The exhibition does not only aim to bring art into the public space, it also seeks to bring contemporary art closer to people. Unlike previous years, some artists will have the opportunity to participate in a residency so that being in touch with the host city and its special features will inform the creation of their work. In addition to installations in the public space, the purpose of the residency is to involve socially active projects, which can also be embraced by the local communities. The exhibition is a collaborative project between kmS, TartMUS, Tartu AiR, Tartu Art College and Narva Art Residence.

Kilometre of Sculpture (kmS) is an international outdoor exhibition of contemporary art, which takes place in the regional towns of Estonia. Since 2014 kmS has organized three exhibitions (two in Rakvere and one in Võru) and in 2017 they participated in Tallinn Art Week.
